Your Soul: How to Access the Intuitive Knowing You Already Possess

Jun 09, 2026
Deborah Scollard, Alignment Architect and creator of the Self Soul Source framework, exploring Your Soul, the intuitive layer of being that holds your body wisdom and inner knowing.

You contain knowing deeper than thought can reach.

You've met Your Self. The planner, the analyzer, the layer that built your career and checked every box. Now let's explore the layer underneath.

Not because Your Self failed you. It did exactly what it was designed to do. But there is a source of knowing inside you that Your Self cannot access. A knowing that doesn't come from thinking harder, researching longer, or analyzing deeper.

You already have it. You've always had it. You simply haven't been shown how to reach it.

Your Soul is your subconscious mind. Your gut. Your intuition. The voice inside you that signals when something doesn't feel right or whispers toward possibilities Your Self hasn't considered yet.

This is the layer that holds your intuitive knowing. Information that arrives before your conscious mind can process it. A felt sense that lives in your body, not your head.

This is the layer that knows whether a job offer is right for you. Even when the salary and title look perfect on paper. This is the intuition that whispers you're meant for something different, even when you can't yet name what that something is.

If Your Self is a computer, Your Soul is a song.

And when you learn to hear it, that's where your real power comes from.

Intuition: Your Subconscious Guidance

Your Self knows a lot of things. It knows your quarterly targets and your org chart and your competitor's market share and what your performance review said last year. That's data.

Your Soul does knowing at a whole other level. It gives you information that isn't visible. It comes from inside you.

That knowing you have when you meet someone and simply sense they are not trustworthy. That knowing when you walk into a negotiation and read the room before a word is spoken. That knowing when you find work that fills you up from the inside out.

This is intuition. Not mysticism. Not guesswork. Your subconscious mind processing patterns, signals, and information your conscious mind hasn't caught up with yet.

Every accomplished professional I've worked with has this capacity. Every single one. The difference between those who access it and those who don't isn't talent or temperament. It's practice. It's learning the language Your Soul speaks. And once you learn it, the clarity can be remarkable.

While Your Self lives in the past, processing what happened, and the future, planning what comes next, Your Soul exists only in the present moment. Right here. Right now. That is where intuition lives. Not in analysis of yesterday. Not in projection of tomorrow. In the felt sense of this moment.

Emotion Is Energy in Motion

Research in trauma therapy shows that people who experience trauma may not fully resolve issues through engaging only with Your Self. The trauma is still remembered by the body and presents physically. There is energy in our bodies that affects us and needs to be addressed.

Emotion. E plus motion. Energy moving through the body.

Your Soul is your energy life. Pulsing, moving, feeling, absorbing, connecting to everything. Our society has groomed us to pay attention to just what our head is saying and not to the energy moving through the body. That deeper knowing.

Research suggests our gut contains a dense network of neural connections, processing information at a deep level that often arrives ahead of conscious thought. Our whole body feels things, processes things at a deep level, shares what it feels through bodily sensations.

Your body speaks in sensations. The tightness. The ease. The quickening. The calm. Each one a message.

This is why you can have the "perfect" job and still feel that persistent ache of wrongness. Your body is trying to tell you something Your Self refuses to hear. Learn its language, and you may finally understand what's been missing.

Your Body Is Voting on Your Career

Your Soul lives in your body. Its messages express themselves physically. How else could they communicate?

Stomach discomfort in a stressful situation. Endorphins released when you're hugging someone you love. Pain signaling when something is wrong. These are not inconveniences. They are Your Soul's language.

When your stomach tightens during that board meeting, that's not anxiety to push through. That's intel. When your shoulders relax during a particular type of project, that's a clue about what work actually suits you. Your body is constantly voting on your career decisions. Learning to count those votes changes everything.

Your wellbeing is not separate from your career. It is information about your career. The headaches, the insomnia, the tension you carry home every evening. These are not the price of success. They are Your Soul telling you something is out of alignment.

How many years have you overridden these signals? Pushed through the tightness, dismissed the dread, ignored the relief? Each time, you taught yourself not to trust the most intuitive part of you.

One client realized her jaw clenched every time she opened her project management software. Yet she was completely relaxed when training new team members. Her body knew what her mind kept dismissing: she belonged in education, not administration.

Life Purpose and Your Dreams

Your Soul carries your life purpose. Not purpose as Your Self defines it, with measurable goals and a five-year plan. Purpose as a felt sense of rightness. A pull toward something that may not make logical sense yet.

Your Soul also speaks through your dreams, your desires, your yearnings. The ideas that keep returning no matter how many times you dismiss them. The career you fantasize about during long meetings. The skill you keep wanting to develop even though it doesn't fit your current role.

These are not distractions. They are data.

Your Soul is always reaching toward your purpose. It may not hand you a business plan. That's Your Self's job. But it will show you what lights you up, what pulls you forward, what makes you feel most fully yourself. It communicates through desire and dream, not spreadsheet and strategy.

Pay attention to what keeps calling you. Even if it doesn't fit the life you've built. Especially if it doesn't fit the life you've built.

Justin's Story

Justin worked as a financial advisor and wanted to adjust his workdays to reflect both his work goals and life goals. Coworkers and staff imposed their priorities on him, and he put them first, leaving his own goals unmet.

He was exhausted. Not just tired. That bone-deep exhaustion that comes from living someone else's agenda in your own life.

We set up a plan that involved learning to say no, using focus, conveying his goals to his staff, scheduling time for resets, and then reviewing each week's goals and accomplishments.

When we met after three weeks, he told me four of five workdays each week were going according to plan and 80% of his work product was going in the direction he wanted. I was thrilled for him.

Justin didn't agree.

His response: "I don't know why I keep screwing up one day."

He had made substantial strides in retooling his work life. Yet he still expected perfection. His Self saw the goals and interpreted 80% success as failure. He missed the tremendous improvement, focusing instead on the remaining 20% gap.

His Self was holding him to impossible standards. His Soul could celebrate each successful day. The one day out of five that presents struggle is an opportunity to learn, grow, review what happened.

It's easy to only hear Your Self, the voice you're accustomed to. But you have other layers of being. You deserve to hear what Your Soul knows.

Your Soul Is Judgment-Free

While Your Self constantly judges everyone and everything, Your Soul takes in every experience without labeling it. A deal falls through. Your Self calls it failure. Your Soul observes: this happened. What can I learn? What opened up that wasn't visible before?

Your Soul holds intuitive knowing about your experiences, your situations, your encounters. Your Self is the one that characterizes this knowing as good or bad. Your Soul is label-free.

This judgment-free quality is precisely what you need when you're paralyzed by career decisions. Your Self judges every option as either perfect or terrible, leaving you stuck. Your Soul simply shows you what resonates, what pulls you forward, what feels true. No pressure. No failure. Just information you can actually use.

What Your Soul Is Hungry For

Your Soul is fed by experiences and enjoyment and growth. It hungers for excitement and novel things. It wants to feel and explore and engage.

It may be the part of you that comes alive landing in a city you've never visited for a client meeting. The part that lights up mentoring a rising leader on your team and watching them grow. The spark of presenting a new strategy to the board, not for the accolades but for the electricity of the idea itself. The satisfaction of navigating a complex negotiation and finding the solution no one else could see.

Your Soul yearns for moments that make you forget to check your phone. Conversations that leave you energized instead of drained. Work that makes 3pm feel as alive as 9am. Things that fill you up as a person, not just fill your calendar.

This conflicts directly with Your Self, which wants to be goal-oriented and do things that are planned with foreseeable outcomes. Your Self wants to stick to labels. Your Soul wants to do what feels good, regardless of labels. It wants to follow the path of things that fulfill you from the inside out.

Think of it as an insatiable appetite for meaning. Your Soul knows what truly nourishes you. It will not be satisfied with empty calories.

Why You Haven't Accessed It Yet

Perhaps you feel you have no messages from Your Soul. Perhaps this all feels implausible. I understand.

It is natural if right now you can't find those feelings or sense that intuition. We have been conditioned to ignore it. Our society does not place importance on this when it's actually vital information that can guide you. Many of us have learned to lower the volume. It takes practice and time to hear it again.

This isn't about having a special gift. It's about removing the noise. Your Soul has its own voice, distinct from your thinking mind. You don't need to believe in souls or energy or any of it. Just notice what you feel in your body. That's enough to start.

The first thing we all need is simply some space. Quiet, relaxed, silence. Quieting those loud messages from Your Self allows Your Soul to speak up and offer intuitive knowing about your path that can move you forward in ways that fulfill you.

Start Here

Take just one minute. Find a quiet space and settle in.

You don't need to be good at this. You don't need to achieve anything. For once, you get to simply be.

Don't reach for your phone or a book. Don't try to solve that work problem or plan your mom's birthday gift. Close your eyes. Breathe. Feel.

What do you notice in your body?

Perhaps nothing at first. Perhaps tension in your shoulders, warmth spreading through your chest, a flutter in your stomach. Perhaps something nameless, just beyond words. Whatever arises is exactly right. This noticing, this willingness to pause and feel, is the first step.

Practice this once a day if you can. Gradually extend from one minute to ten. When Your Self rushes in to analyze or dismiss what comes up, gently return to simply noticing.

Many people begin noticing patterns within a few weeks of daily practice, though there is no required timeline. It may be as simple as realizing you always feel lighter on days when you work with a certain colleague, or heavier when preparing for a particular type of meeting. These patterns become your roadmap.

This may feel awkward at first. You may feel nothing. You may feel restless or frustrated that you're "not doing it right." There is no right. There is only the willingness to listen. Keep going.

Your Soul holds intuitive knowing you can trust. It has been speaking all along. All it needs is for you to listen.

Does this resonate with where you are right now?

If it does, the next step is finding out where you actually stand. The Career Alignment Assessment takes five minutes and shows you which of your three layers is leading and which ones are starving. Start here.
