The Layer That Holds Your Deepest Wisdom. And the Reason You Know You Were Meant for More.
By Deborah Scollard · Alignment Architect · Self Soul Source®
You are perfect exactly as you are.
You've met Your Self, the conscious mind that built your career and checked every box. You've met Your Soul, the intuitive knowing that lives in your body and carries your life purpose. Now we arrive at the deepest layer. The center of everything you are.
This is the layer that holds the answer to why you feel unfulfilled despite doing everything "right."
Your Source is your spiritual essence. Wisdom, spirit, connection to something larger than yourself. That strong, tiny glint of light inside every single person, no matter who they are.
Every one of us has this layer, even if we don't tap into it or acknowledge it. Every single person is part of the greater whole, and we all carry that perfection within us.
No matter what you have done or not done, this is the layer that is pure and perfect and made up of love and joy.
Sit with that for a moment. There is a part of you that is perfect. Really. And when you connect with that perfection, you may stop questioning your worth and start questioning whether your current work is worthy of you.
What This Means for Your Discontent
Your discontent isn't a character flaw. It's Your Source calling you toward work that honors who you truly are. The restlessness is information, not inadequacy. The ache is not a sign that something is wrong with you. It's a sign that something is right with you. You still know, somewhere deep inside, that you were meant for more than this.
Your Self tells you to be grateful. Your Soul shows you what's missing. Your Source reminds you that you deserve to be fulfilled. Not as a luxury. As a birthright.
When you learn to recognize and honor Your Source, you may stop chasing other people's definition of success and start building a career that actually fulfills you. This doesn't mean quitting tomorrow. It means beginning to understand what would truly satisfy you.
Where to Feel Your Source
You feel connected to this layer when things spark joy or excitement or peace in you. These moments may offer guidance toward alignment. This isn't abstract spiritual advice. It's practical career navigation. Each moment of genuine joy tells you something specific about the conditions where you thrive.
The feedback from Your Source is always good. It gives you a little tingle, if only for a second. A deep feeling of connectedness to something, to everything. A moment of pure peace or love.
It's okay if you're not feeling Your Source yet. Perhaps you've learned to dismiss these moments, to tell yourself they don't matter. Perhaps you've trained yourself not to notice them at all. That's perfectly normal. This is a practice, not a performance.
The word "divine" needn't carry enormous weight. It doesn't have to be a voice from above or a dramatic revelation.
It can be tiny. It can be about something small.
It's a sweet spot of perfection. You may have a few of these moments each day without even noticing them. Finishing a complex deliverable and feeling satisfaction settle into your bones. Mentoring someone on your team and watching the moment understanding clicks. Presenting a solution to the C-suite and sensing the room shift. Solving a problem that's been grinding at you for weeks and feeling electricity run through you. Walking out of a meeting where real consensus was reached, not forced. Hearing genuine gratitude from a client whose situation you changed.
These moments matter. They reveal what brings you genuine fulfillment. When you notice what lights you up in daily life, you gain insight into what type of career would truly fulfill you.
Patterns That Reveal Your Path
When you track these moments over a week or two, you may begin to see patterns. Perhaps every Tuesday staff meeting energizes you, but every Thursday solo work drains you. Perhaps client presentations light you up, but administrative tasks feel heavy. Perhaps you come alive when leading others but wilt when working alone.
If you find that you're most alive when mentoring others, when explaining complex concepts and watching understanding dawn, perhaps leadership development is your path. If you light up when solving complex puzzles, when all the pieces finally click, perhaps strategy or restructuring is calling. If you feel most connected when creating something from nothing, perhaps innovation or entrepreneurship feeds Your Source.
These specific patterns reveal which direction to move. You don't need to have it all figured out right now. Simply noticing is enough to start.
Raman's Story
Raman is an accountant. He has a spouse and two kids. In his free time, he is an artist. Painting is what sparks joy in him. His entire life, painting has been the thing that brought him alive. When he paints, his Soul sings.
This aliveness. This is Your Source making itself known. It confirms that Raman is in alignment, even as his conscious mind tells him accounting is the sensible career.
For years, Raman dismissed his love of painting as "just a hobby." Something frivolous compared to his "real" work. But that persistent pull toward the canvas was His Source speaking. Each time he walked past his easel to check work emails instead, something inside him grew quieter. Each time someone asked what he did and he said "accountant" without mentioning his art, he felt a small betrayal of himself.
When he finally paid attention, he didn't need to quit his job and become a starving artist. Instead, he started noticing which parts of his accounting work lit him up the same way painting did: the visual presentation of data, the creative problem-solving, the moments when he helped clients see their financial picture in a new way. He began specializing in visual financial reporting and presentation design. Same field, different focus. One that honored what brought him alive.
The relief was profound. He hadn't realized how heavy it was, carrying that divided self, until he finally put it down.
Your Source Is the Light
Your Source is the light of the divine within you, but it appears differently for everyone. Your path to fulfillment will look different from anyone else's. That's precisely why comparing yourself to others keeps you stuck.
If there is sunlight coming in the window and you hold up a red piece of glass and I hold up a blue piece of glass, we're interpreting and seeing that light differently. We are each having our own experience, but we're both seeing the same light. It just appears differently for each of us.
There is no single "right" path to career fulfillment. Only your path. This means you can stop trying to force yourself into someone else's definition of success and start building your own.
What Your Source Is Hungry For
Your Source is hungry for joy, love, wisdom, acceptance, peace, harmony, and understanding.
Your Source is the piece of you that confirms when you are in alignment. Your Soul carries your purpose. Your Source illuminates when you are living it. It pings and sings and shines with recognition.
Your Source is completely in vibration with joy, the divine, the perfection of the universe. This piece of you sparks when your daily work aligns with who you truly are. Offering confirmation that you're on the right path. This is how you know when a job offer is right, when a project aligns with who you are, when a career change will truly satisfy you. Your Source gives you clarity that transcends logic. When you learn to trust it, your decisions may become clearer and your path easier.
The things that spark Your Source tell you precisely what feeds you and what depletes you. It is by listening to Your Source that you can discover the specific changes to make in your career and your life so that you are happier, more satisfied, and fulfilled.
Look to Your Childhood
If you aren't sure how to access this spark, consider your childhood. Before the world told you what you "should" do for a career. Before you learned to be practical. Before you abandoned delight for duty.
What kinds of things did you enjoy doing then? The moments when you were perfectly happy, before anyone told you that what you were doing was not productive or useful or acceptable or important. Those are the paths to Your Source.
Here's why this matters: That child who spent hours building elaborate structures may thrive in architecture, project management, or strategic planning. That child who performed shows for the family may be meant for training, sales, or team leadership. That child who organized their room by color, size, and category may excel in operations, systems design, or process improvement. Your childhood joy wasn't random. It was your authentic self showing you who you are before the world told you who to be.
It's not too late. The connection to your authentic self is never truly severed. Only sleeping.
Joanna's Story
Joanna is a lawyer. She hates appearing in court. She hates arguing against other lawyers and that feeling of confrontation. She doesn't like the winner-takes-all approach the system is set up for.
But she does like talking to her clients and she likes working out settlements in her cases. The moments when she helps people find a solution without going to court. That lights her up. Her Source finds connection to the divine in helping people work out issues without a fight, by finding and building consensus.
Joanna finally realizes this is why she's not happy at her job. The firm she is with is focused on litigation. She realizes she would be happier as a mediator or a collaborative lawyer.
The realization brought both relief and fear. Relief. She finally understood why she'd been so unhappy. It wasn't her. It was the mismatch between her Soul's purpose and her daily practice. Fear. She didn't know how to make the change without losing everything she'd built.
She began researching collaborative law and mediation. Took a weekend certification course while still working at her firm. Started offering mediation services within her practice. Small steps, testing the waters before making any big leap. Eventually, she transitioned to a collaborative law practice.
The transition wasn't instantaneous or without challenges. She made less money at first. She had to learn new skills. But the daily experience shifted. Same degree, same skills, completely different daily experience. She goes home energized instead of depleted.
This is what listening to Your Source can make possible.
Start Here
Sit quietly and remember moments in your life when you felt that beautiful spark within you. Remember how it felt, how it lit you up and fulfilled you. Connect with that feeling of joy, perfection, and divinity.
Are there fleeting moments in your current job where you feel tiny sparks of the divine? Be specific. Is it the moment when your team member finally understands something you taught them? The instant when your presentation lands perfectly? The satisfaction of closing a difficult negotiation? The quiet pride of organizing chaos into order?
If not, what kinds of changes to your job would allow you to feel those sparks? More time in collaborative meetings and less time in solo work? More client interaction and less paperwork? More strategic planning and less task execution?
Write them down. These aren't idle wishes. They're intelligence from your deepest self about what you need to thrive. You don't need to act on them immediately. Simply naming them is powerful.
Track three to five of these moments daily for two weeks. You may begin to see a clear pattern emerge. That pattern is your roadmap.
When you feel joy, exultation, and utter peace, that is Your Source telling you that you are living in alignment. Pay attention.
Does this resonate with where you are right now?
If you're starting to notice your own sparks, the next step is finding out which of your three layers is leading right now and which ones are starving. The Career Alignment Assessment takes five minutes. It will show you exactly where you stand today, and where the room to align is. Start here.
